Request a Program - Residential Life
The Student Wellness Office is excited to support first-year bricks and social houses with individual and communal well-being opportunities!
Use the following guidelines for organizing collaborative programming with Student Wellness. Collaboration means a social house or first year floor will choose a program from our offerings and then work with a representative from the Student Wellness Office to tailor the program to your specific group, plan out the details, and assist in logistics and promotion.
Typically, it is the responsibility of the requesting group to fund programs and projects. Therefore, you may need to comply with parameters of your Res Life budget - keep this in mind when planning*. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Student Wellness staff with any questions.
Menu of Programs
Physical Wellness
- Hiring an instructor for a private fitness class (i.e.- active or restorative yoga, pilates, spin, kickboxing, strength-training/weightlifting, HIIT or dance class)
- Off-campus: aerial yoga at Sundara Yoga or Forever Wild Yoga, roller skating rink time, trampoline park, local walk/hike to Popham Beach-Morse Mountain, etc.
- Partner Massage workshop in Buck 301 with Kate Nicholson
- Resisting Diet Culture + Reclaiming Body Trust workshop (1x or 3-part series)
- Rest & Refresh: skills and strategies to reimagine rest & improve sleep (option to include 45 minute yoga nidra or “yoga sleep” session)
Mental Wellness
- Self-Care Playlist Workshop: Use Music to Change Your Mood
- Stress Less Workshop with Active Minds or Mindfulness Over Matter (co-design around mindfulness practices, collage/creative expression, journaling…)
- Get Creative! Your Brain on Art Workshop (hands-on health & healing)
- Food & Mood – Cook up a recipe & connect the dots around how what we eat influences what we think.
Social Wellness
- Create a custom retreat for your group! ½ day, full-day or overnight options. Typically, retreats take place at Schiller Coastal Center and need 4 weeks notice, but best to plan at start of semester regardless. Student Wellness Office can brainstorm and help shape and set up your retreat for success.
- Colors & Connection Workshop: this is a fun, creative and interactive workshop to both meet new people (i.e- a mixer between groups) and create deeper, meaningful connections with other students.
- We’re Not Really Strangers Anymore- perfect for a low-key event paired with some good food or treats to gather round and get to know each other better & in unexpected ways!
- Host a Moth Radio Hour storytelling event – create a lounge scene (social house common rooms work great), select a theme for the stories, create community that’s vulnerable, funny, real. This event needs enough time for storytellers to prepare their shares ahead of time + promotion. Very worthwhile when it comes together!
- Host a film screening (house bonding, wider campus or broader community) followed by lively discussion. Pitch a film to us or Student Wellness can access short films to recommend depending on preferred focus/topic.
